The Woodberry wresting team traveled to Maryland and then Northern Virginia this past weekend to participate in a quad meet held at Georgetown Prep on Friday followed by an individual tournament on Saturday at Paul VI high school.  These were the first live matches that the wrestlers have had since leaving for Christmas Break in December so it was great to get back out on the mat.

Davis Smith tore through the tournament and took home the title at 170lbs.  Davis pinned his way to the finals and then pinned his opponent from Pope John Paul the Great in the second period.  Davis is currently ranked #2 overall in his weight class in the state.

Bill Clark, the anchor of the team's lineup, pinned his way to the finals of the tournament where he lost to an opponent from Paul VI.  His opponent is the #3 ranked wrestler in the state and Bill is currently #4.  It was a tight match but Bill was unable to score from any position and ended up with his first loss of the season, a 2-0 decision.  On his way to the finals Bill pinned opponents from EHS and St Stephen's St Agnes in the first and second periods respectively.

Sam Thomas-Sam wrestled his way to a 3rd place finish overall and on his way to finishing up on the podium with 3rd place Sam won matches over John Paul the Great and EHS.  Sam is really coming into his own on the wrestling mat with his technique and skill set.

Will Thomas wrestled his first matches of the season at 152lbs on Saturday.  Will had another solid  tournament, earning 2 victories, with one victory being over the #4 ranked wrestler in the state.  Although he lost in the finals of the tournament, Will is quickly making a name for himself as one of the top wrestlers in his weight class.

The wrestling team enjoyed dinner at Mission BBQ for Will Thomas's birthday. It was a great way to end the trip!
