Turner Ashby Wrestling Tournament Information

Hello Tiger Fans!  The varsity boys will be in the Harrisonburg area this weekend for the Turner Ashby Wrestling Tournament.  The boys will begin to weigh in at 2:45 pm tomorrow, December 20th.  Wrestling will start shortly after the weigh ins are completed.  The boys will also
wrestle on Saturday.  Parents are able to take their boys home for break when the tournament is completed.

UVA Elite Practice

Coach Budlong takes a group of boys each Sunday to the University of Virginia for some extra practice and new skills!  This past Sunday Witt Moye, Will Medick and Brandon Walker attended the practice.

Six place at Richmond Invitational

The Tigers went to Hermitage High School to battle it out with some great Virginia wrestlers this past weekend!  A lot of schools participated, but some of the top wrestling programs included Franklin County, Princess Anne, St. Christopher's and Benedictine.  Six Tigers were place winners taking home medals.  Overall, the Team placed 5th out of 16 teams!  Great job boys!

Most of the Tigers will be wrestling at Turner Ashby in Harrisonburg this Friday and Saturday.  Brandon Walker is participating in the Beast of the East in Newark, DE.  Good luck to all of the boys!

Tigers finish 7th out of 12 teams in Tournament

The Varsity Wrestling Team travelled to Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, VA for the
"Opening Day at the Park" wrestling tournament.  This is a tough opening tournament against some excellent public school wrestling programs.   The boys should be proud of themselves, but need to continue to practice hard!  Their next test will be the Richmond Invitational at Hermitage High School this Friday and Saturday.

Scrimmage vs. Eastern View

Last night Eastern View High School in Culpeper, VA travelled to the Forest for a scrimmage.  It was a good chance for the boys to practice before they travel to the Forest Park Invitational this weekend.

Break? What Break?

The scrimmage will be Monday, December 2, 2013 at 4:30 p.m.  In the meantime, the boys are working!

Wrestlers coming back early from Thanksgiving Break!

Dedication!  That is what wrestling is all about.  Today, the boys will report back to the Forest for practice.  While the rest of the students will return Monday afternoon, the wrestling team will arrive early.  The same dedication will show during the Christmas holidays when the team will report back early from their much deserved break.

In the meantime, Monday's newly scheduled scrimmage against Eastern View High School will be a good chance to measure where the team stands.  More information will be posted shortly.

Wrestling Season Has Started!

Over 40 boys came out to the wrestling room today to begin the 2013-2014 wrestling season.  It's a great turnout with a lot of potential for a successful season!

On the schedule first, "Opening Day at the Park".  Forest Park Duals at Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, VA on December 6th and 7th.

Welcome!

Today, Woodberry welcomed in the 2013-2014 school year!  Some fall sports have already started and others will be starting soon.  In the wrestling world, the IOC voted to keep wrestling in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.  It's a great day for wrestling!
On that note, we are only a few months away from the Tiger wrestling season.  A few boys are going to participate in pre-season tournaments.  Then before you know it, wrestling will be going strong.  We will be starting a twitter page to keep you updated.  Can't wait!

Congratulations to William and Brandon!

William Dossett completed his goal of winning at least one match at the National Prep Tournament!  The tournament, held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, showcases the top wrestlers in private schools.  William, affectionately knows as "Doss", won his first match with a pin!

Brandon Walker became an "All American" wrestler at the National Prep tournament this year.  He placed 8th in a tough field of 32 wrestlers!  Brandon had a goal of "making it to Saturday", which he did in dramatic fashion with a close match against a wrestler from Loyla!

The Woodberry Forest wrestling teams had a great season with a bright future!  Thank you to all of the parents, staff and friends!  We will miss the graduating seniors and wish them the best.

How happy is Coach Robert Lillard and Coach David Budlong?  Well, last year the Tigers placed 17th at the VISAA State Tournament and this year the boys placed fifth!  Congratulations to Coaches Budlong, Lillard, Glover and Carr!
